Inteplast BOPP Films, a leading manufacturer of biaxially oriented polypropylene films, has partnered with VerdaFresh, a provider of sustainable food packaging solutions, to create a high barrier flexible film that enhances food shelf life and reduces packaging waste in the food and drink packaging industry.

Paul Marquard, the general manager and vice president of BOPP Films, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in eliminating food waste through sustainable packaging practices.

In a joint effort with VerdaFresh, Marquard highlighted the development of packaging and film solutions that prioritize sustainability and cost-effectiveness. The oriented films by Inteplast, known for their high moisture barrier, complement VerdaFresh’s coating technology to ensure superior oxygen protection. This collaboration aims to address the critical need for product preservation and shelf life extension while embracing sustainability and functionality.

Unlike traditional aluminum barrier films and other options like PVDC and EVOH, Inteplast BOPP Films and VerdaFresh offer a unique approach with their WTVR and OTR barriers, delivering superior product protection and generating less waste throughout the production-to-end user pipeline.

Dave Klopp, the CEO of VerdaFresh, expressed excitement about introducing a combined product technology to the market that guarantees full product protection and utilizes sustainably manufactured materials, benefiting both customers and the food industries they serve.

VerdaFresh’s barrier packaging, recognized by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR), has successfully passed Critical Guidance tests for recyclability, proving that their ultra-thin barrier coating behaves as a mono-material. This aligns with the growing demand for mono-material packaging, prompting BOPP Films and VerdaFresh to explore integrating Inteplast’s new BOPE mono-material webs with VerdaFresh’s coating for future fully recyclable and APR-approved solutions.
