Cano Water, the world’s first canned water brand, has made a significant change in its operations by shifting production to the UK from its original source in the Austrian Alps.
By moving its production to the UK, Cano Water has achieved a remarkable milestone in its sustainability journey. The brand has reduced its carbon footprint by over half while maintaining the exceptional quality and purity of its water.
Founded with a mission to address the global plastic pollution crisis, Cano Water has been at the forefront of offering consumers a sustainable alternative to single-use plastic water bottles since 2015. The company’s transition to UK-based production demonstrates its unwavering commitment to minimizing environmental impact.
Alongside the shift to UK production, Cano Water is also reducing its footprint across the entire supply chain. The brand continues to lead in packaging innovation with lightweighting enhancements to its best-selling 330ml ring pull cans and outer boxes.
The new UK-sourced water is drawn from over 240 meters below the English countryside through a borehole with unique sandstone geology that filters the water slowly, ensuring a clean and natural taste. The water’s average age is over 3,000 years, dating back to the time Stonehenge was built.
Josh White, CEO and Co-Founder of Cano Water, states: “The move to UK production and sourcing is a significant step towards our goal of saving one billion plastic bottles from landfill by 2030. Single-use plastic bottles continue to contribute to global plastic pollution, harming wildlife and ecosystems.”
“By collaborating with UK suppliers, we are excited to further our mission of providing consumers with a sustainable alternative to bottled water while reducing our environmental impact.”
Cano Water’s expansion into online grocery retailer Ocado and leading supermarket Tesco, with Cano Water Sparkling now available in 240 stores nationwide, makes its sustainable alternative more accessible to a wider audience.
To date, Cano Water has sold over 50 million cans and attracted notable investment from celebrities, including Harry Lewis, Simon Minter, Vikram Singh Barn, Dave, Ricky Gervais, and Jess Glynne.
