With a focus on emerging markets, Altopack is expanding its presence in Africa by providing pasta packaging technologies to meet the growing demand for pasta in the region. Over the past decade, global pasta consumption has nearly doubled, reaching 17 million tonnes.
Italy, the birthplace of pasta, has a per capita consumption of approximately 23 kilos per year, making it a key market. Altopack, with its diverse portfolio, caters to a wide range of production needs, from large multinational operations to smaller contractors.
Altopack has a strong presence in Africa, a region of significant importance in the pasta sector, with a market value of about 11 billion dollars and an expected growth rate of 11.67%. The company has installed over 50 production lines in Africa, solidifying its position as a leading provider of pasta packaging solutions in the region.
Through partnerships with SACE, ICE, and various ‘Camere di Commercio’, Altopack is able to supply and install machines across Africa, providing technical and financial support to its customers. This was exemplified in Angola, where Altopack supplied packaging machines for two production lines for a local brand.
Altopack is actively participating in major packaging exhibitions, such as the one scheduled for March 2024 in Tripoli, Libya, and at Propack East Africa in Nairobi, Kenya. According to Altopack, Kenya’s growing economy presents a lucrative market for pasta consumption, making it a focal point for the company’s expansion efforts in the region.
