Coperion Donates State-of-the-Art Food Extruder to Purdue University

Coperion, a leading manufacturer of extrusion and feeding equipment, has donated a ZSK 27 food extruder to Purdue University in Indiana. The extruder, which includes the latest control capabilities, will be used by the Department of Food Science within the College of Agriculture and the Food Entrepreneurship and Manufacturing Institute.

This donation reinforces Coperion’s commitment to advancing food manufacturing research and education. The co-rotating twin screw extruder is highly configurable, making it suitable for studying emerging markets, such as plant-based meat substitutes, cereals, puff snacks, pet food, and other extruded processed food products.

In addition to the extruder, Coperion has donated two K-Tron loss-in-weight feeders to Purdue University. They are designed with the latest generation of controls and load cells to ensure the highest accuracy of ingredient delivery to the extruder. Allison Kingery, Executive Director Life Science and Agriculture at Purdue University said, “The students will certainly benefit from utilising a machine with such an exceptional reputation in the food industry.”

The ZSK 27 twin screw extruder in a hybrid version offers maximum flexibility, easy handling, and fulfills the highest hygiene requirements. The modular design and the twin screw’s spoke profile eliminate stagnant zones, making fast and efficient cleaning and recipe changes a reality. With its impressive specifications, the machine achieves throughputs of 10 to 100 kg/h, depending on the end-product.

This donation gives students and staff at Purdue University the opportunity to utilise a state-of-the-art extruder while studying food manufacturing and creates opportunities for testing new products and studying the final extruded product to be used in the kitchen. This donation not only supports research but also brings the product to life.
