Tetra Pak Processing Equipment SIA has announced its acquisition of Bioreactors.net, a Latvia-based specialist with nearly three decades of experience in designing and manufacturing bioreactor systems. This strategic move stands to significantly enhance Tetra Pak’s capability to provide integrated, full-scale production lines for the rapidly growing New Food sector.
Effective from 2 December 2025, this acquisition immediately bolsters Tetra Pak’s processing expertise and equipment portfolio in crucial areas such as precision and biomass fermentation. Bioreactors.net, founded in 1996, specializes in delivering cutting-edge fermentation solutions that produce proteins and other ingredients for New Food applications. Their expertise ranges from laboratory and pilot setups to full-scale commercial production systems—addressing major challenges in the alternative protein sector regarding efficient and cost-effective production scaling.
“The addition of Bioreactors.net complements our existing upstream and downstream processing portfolio with fermentation capabilities,” noted Rafael Barros, director of the New Food business stream at Tetra Pak. “Together, we will deploy their full portfolio of bioreactor solutions under the Tetra Pak brand—offering advanced food production systems.”
The core strategic goal behind this acquisition is to accelerate the development of next-generation bioreactors. This will empower both emerging innovators and established producers to scale sustainably. Furthermore, this acquisition represents the latest in a series of significant investments by Tetra Pak aimed at becoming a central enabler in the New Food industry.
Bioreactors.net’s technology will seamlessly integrate with existing Tetra Pak assets, including the Tetra Pak New Food Technology Development Centre in Karlshamn, Sweden. This centre, launched in June 2025, aims to assist manufacturers in transitioning products from prototype to commercial-scale effectively.
Janis Misins-Jubels, head of manufacturing at Bioreactors.net, views the integration as a pivotal moment for technology deployment. “Our decades of expertise in bioreactors, paired with Tetra Pak’s existing portfolio, global reach, and resources, will accelerate the delivery of world-class fermentation solutions to customers around the globe,” he emphasized.
Moreover, biotechnology, fermentation, and bioprocessing technologies are increasingly recognized as vital innovations for developing more circular and resilient food systems needed to meet global food demand. This acquisition positions Tetra Pak to deliver the complete, specialized processing equipment necessary for manufacturers to drive systemic change in food manufacturing.
