King’s Hawaiian, a prominent US bakery group, is set to invest $54 million to expand its facility in Oakwood, Georgia. The details of this investment were announced recently by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. The expansion will incorporate a new production line into the existing 150,000-square-foot facility located in Oakwood South Industrial Park. This initiative will also create 135 new jobs for the local workforce.

Mark Taira, CEO of the family-owned King’s Hawaiian, expressed excitement by stating: “This expansion represents a major milestone in our journey, and we are thrilled to continue growing our ohana in Hall County. For 15 years, Georgia has been an essential part of our success.”

Anticipated to commence operations in the second quarter of 2026, the new production line will focus on manufacturing additional flavors of King’s Hawaiian Pretzel Bites.

Founded in 1950 by the Taira family in Hilo, Hawaii, King’s Hawaiian is part of the Irresistible Foods Group (IFG), which also includes Grillo’s Pickles.

Since establishing their presence in Georgia in 2010, the manufacturer of Hawaiian Sweet Rolls has expanded significantly, supporting over 800 jobs within the state, as noted in the government statement.

Governor Kemp added: “For nearly 15 years, King’s Hawaiian has proven to be an incredible partner in creating quality jobs in northeast Georgia, and we look forward to even more years of great success for them in Hall County. Expansions like these are an important part of our economic development work, helping create further opportunities in growing communities.”

In 2023, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation announced that King’s Hawaiian plans to invest $175 million in a new 300,000-square-foot bakery plant in Taylorsville, which is projected to begin operations by late 2026 or early 2027.

Furthermore, last month, Grillo’s Pickles revealed plans to construct a new manufacturing facility in Taylorsville. The Boston-based company is investing $54 million in this 155,000-square-foot factory.
