Grillo’s Pickles, a subsidiary of Irresistible Foods Group (IFG), is advancing its operations with the construction of a new manufacturing facility in Indiana.

Recently, the Boston-based company announced that it has broken ground on a 155,000-square-foot factory in Taylorsville. This strategic move positions Grillo’s to better meet the rising national demand for its products.

The facility, described by Grillo’s Pickles as its “new $54m food manufacturing operation,” is expected to create up to 150 jobs in the region. This expansion reflects the company’s commitment to growth and community development.

Founded in 2008, Grillo’s Pickles began its journey selling pickles from a wooden cart in downtown Boston. Now, its products are widely available in grocery stores across the United States, showcasing its remarkable growth.

“Our pickles use a century-old family recipe and contain no artificial preservatives,” stated Grillo’s Pickles President and CEO Adam Kaufman. He emphasized that Grillo’s pickles are packed, shipped, and sold refrigerated, ensuring freshness and quality.

“For our new production site, it was important to us to find a central US location with a skilled workforce and supportive business environment, and we are very excited to be in Bartholomew County, Indiana,” Kaufman added.

Importantly, the Taylorsville factory is strategically located adjacent to a $175m bakery facility for King’s Hawaiian, another subsidiary of IFG. This alignment between operations promises operational efficiencies.

In December 2023, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) announced that the 300,000-square-foot King’s Hawaiian bakery is set to be operational by late 2026 or early 2027, further enhancing the local food manufacturing landscape.

The facility sits on an 88-acre site at the southeast corner of Exit 76 on I-65, facilitating logistics and distribution.

Joe Leonardo, IFG vice president of strategic operations and King’s Hawaiian COO, stated: “When we purchased the Bartholomew County site, we did so with plans to build it out in phases. Today’s announcement for Grillo’s Pickles confirms our strategy.”

Moreover, Bartholomew County officials approved a ten-year property tax phase-in for Grillo’s Pickles’ new building and equipment, projected to save the company around $1.2m.

Additionally, the IEDC has committed up to $1.4m in incentive-based tax credits to Grillo’s Pickles. This support underscores the company’s investment and job creation initiatives.
