Europlant has strengthened its long-term presence in British agriculture by establishing a dedicated subsidiary, Europlant Potatoes UK Ltd.

The new company brings Europlant’s UK market activities together under one structure, supporting broader direct marketing of innovative potato varieties and closer cooperation with growers, packers and other industry partners.

James Paice, an experienced executive in the fresh produce and potato sectors, has been appointed managing director to lead the subsidiary’s next stage of development.

A dedicated structure for an important market

The creation of a UK-based subsidiary reflects Europlant’s confidence in the potential of the British potato sector. A local operating structure will allow the company to provide more focused support across the market, covering both fresh consumption and processing.

Christian Krahn, sales manager export at Europlant, highlighted the strategic importance of the move: “The United Kingdom is an important market for Europlant with considerable potential. By establishing this new company, we are creating a clear local structure that will enable us to support our customers and partners for all market segments more effectively. Our core strengths remain unchanged: high-performing varieties, consistent quality and reliable service.”

This approach also positions Europlant to respond more effectively to evolving food and beverage industry trends, including changing food and drink consumer trends, food manufacturing trends and growing demand for resilient agricultural production.

Experienced leadership for market growth

As managing director, James Paice contributes substantial leadership experience from across the British potato and fresh produce industries. His understanding of the domestic market is expected to support the introduction of Europlant’s high-performing and resilient breeding portfolio to growers throughout the UK.

Commenting on his appointment and the subsidiary’s future direction, James Paice said: “Europlant combines decades of experience in potato breeding with an extensive international network and a diverse portfolio of varieties. I look forward to building on this expertise for the British market together with our partners, strengthening existing business relationships and exploring new market opportunities.”

His appointment comes as businesses across the agricultural supply chain assess the impact of food processing technology, food distribution trends and wider food and drink sustainability priorities. Local expertise will help Europlant align its variety portfolio and commercial activities with these market developments.

Priorities for the UK business

Europlant Potatoes UK Ltd will focus on several areas as it expands its presence in Britain:

  • Introducing new varieties: Bringing high-yielding, advanced and climate-resilient potato varieties to UK growers.
  • Expanding licensing activity: Developing licensing partnerships with growers and other participants throughout the supply chain.
  • Improving stakeholder collaboration: Building stronger working relationships between producers, packers and commercial customers.

The subsidiary will also monitor developments affecting food and drink regulations, food and drink packaging and food and drink marketing, particularly where these influence variety selection, supply chain performance and consumer demand.

As the new structure becomes established, Europlant intends to present its expanded capabilities and connect directly with the agricultural community at forthcoming industry events, including the Europlant Open Days and the British Potato Conference. These engagements will provide opportunities to discuss food and drink industry innovation, cultivation resilience and the changing needs of the British potato market.
