Pythag Tech has secured $4.25 million in seed investment to advance its artificial intelligence platform designed to lower manufacturing costs for the cultivated meat sector.
Azolla Ventures led the funding round, which also included Endurance28 and a number of other institutional investors.
The company will direct the capital towards expanding its biological data resources and machine learning technology. These developments are intended to help food producers create more efficient cultivated meat manufacturing systems.
Rather than producing cultivated meat itself, Pythag Tech provides data-led technology that can be licensed by businesses working to commercialise and scale alternative protein production.
Its AI platform supports laboratory research across three key areas that contribute significantly to production costs: growth media, cell line development and bioprocessing.
Results generated through the experiments are fed into machine learning models, allowing the company to identify ways to streamline production, improve efficiency and lower research and development expenditure.
The funding arrives as cultivated meat businesses continue to work towards commercially sustainable cost structures, even as scientific progress and regulatory developments move forward.
Pythag Tech aims to help overcome these challenges by giving manufacturers access to production data and optimised processes that may shorten development timelines and reduce the cost of bringing cultivated meat products to market.
Cultivated meat is made by growing animal cells in controlled production environments, eliminating the need to raise and slaughter livestock. While the technology is being pursued as an alternative source of animal protein, its wider commercial adoption will depend on further gains in manufacturing efficiency and cost reduction.
Pythag Tech said the larger AI platform and expanded biological dataset will support the creation of production models suitable for use in commercial-scale cultivated meat operations.
