Plants, a health-food brand based in the UK and established by Deliciously Ella founder Ella Mills, has successfully acquired the Allplants assets following the administration process.
In a statement endorsed by Mills and her husband Matthew, it was confirmed that Plants has procured the “name and associated brand assets” of Allplants.
Previously, London-based Allplants was placed under the control of advisory firm Interpath in November, which unfortunately resulted in 65 staff layoffs.
During that period, Interpath stated, “In common with a number of other companies across the plant-based food sector, the company had faced trading headwinds in recent years, including rising food, transport and energy costs, and the impact of fragile consumer confidence due to the cost-of-living crisis.”
The advisory firm elaborated, “After a period of sustained losses, the directors sought to explore their strategic options, including the possibility of a sale or refinancing. However, when a solvent solution could not be found, they made the difficult decision to seek the appointment of administrators.”
As for the financial terms of the asset transfer to Plants, they remain undisclosed.
In the same statement, Natasha Harbinson, a director at Interpath who led the transaction, remarked, “The Allplants brand had grown to become synonymous with ethically-produced, healthy, plant-based nutrition. We’re pleased to have concluded this transaction, allowing it to continue under the skilled leadership of the Plants’ team.”
Founded in 2016 by Jonathan Petrides, Allplants specialized in producing frozen vegan meals that were primarily sold online, with limited availability in select independent retailers.
Meanwhile, Plants offers a range of pasta, pasta sauces, and salad dressings that are selectively available at Waitrose and online through Ocado.
The Mills duo stated, “We will bring together Plants and Allplants to create an extraordinary, natural plant-based powerhouse.”
They continued, “We have long admired the Allplants brand, which enjoys significant consumer recognition throughout the UK.”
“We are thrilled to have signed an agreement to acquire the brand name and associated brand assets, and we’re eager to build a promising future for this brand.”
It is worth noting that the Mills family no longer owns Deliciously Ella. The brand was sold in September to the Hero Group, a Swiss manufacturer known for health-focused baby foods, snack bars, and spreads, for an undisclosed amount, although Mr. Mills remains its CEO.
Founded in 2012, Deliciously Ella is featured in major retailers such as Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda, the Co-op, Waitrose, and Ocado, providing a variety of oat bars, granola, and crackers.
