Bühler Launches New Optical Sorters for Nut Industry Challenges
Bühler, a global leader in food manufacturing technology, has launched a new portfolio of Sortex optical sorters to combat industry challenges within the nut processing industry. The new range has been designed to increase yield, ease-of-use and combat aflatoxin, a poisonous chemical that can contaminate nuts.
Consumers and retailers have high expectations of quality, with a zero tolerance for the presence of mycotoxins or foreign materials, such as sticks, stones and shells. In addition, uniformity of size, shape and cosmetic appearance is now an expectation. However, increased raw material costs, environmental initiatives and land and water usage regulations have impacted the nut processing industry for years.
Bühler’s optical sorting portfolio has been designed to counter these challenges. They have set the standard in quality while reducing waste and increasing yields, offering the advanced sustainability required by processors.
The Sortex H SpectraVision is Bühler’s highest-performing optical sorter on the market. Specialising in blanched and natural kernels, the Sortex H brings up to 50% higher reject concentration, leading to a high-quality product and reduced waste. The H machine also brings high capacity with full-colour cameras and LEDs for improved defect detection.
The Sortex LumoVision has been designed to minimize contamination in nuts as it identifies and removes cancer-causing, aflatoxin-infected product. The new optical sorter can reduce the aflatoxin level by up to 90%.
The Sortex J SpectraVision brings affordable high-level colour sorting, combined with the revolutionary MerlinAI engine for performance and ease-of-use. The Sortex J machine features the latest sensor technology, connectivity capabilities, and software, enabling digitalisation and use without extensive training.
The Sortex N is a specialist pre-cleaner for both natural and in-shell nuts. Combining Bühler’s proven shell-detection cameras with a new sorting platform, the Sortex N eliminates critical defects and foreign materials, resulting in the cleanest, safest nuts.
Bühler’s cloud-based data capture software, the Sortex Monitoring System, provides processors with essential metrics and data for peak performance, enabling quick response and saving money from lost production time and errors.
