A strategic technical and supply collaboration has been established to develop “next-generation” ingredient solutions in the UK and Ireland. This agreement focuses on enhancing performance, nutrition, and sustainability across various food manufacturing sectors.

The partnership aims to innovate and implement advanced fava-bean-based ingredient solutions within a range of product categories in the UK and Ireland. This initiative underscores the growing importance of plant-based ingredients in food manufacturing.

Founded in 2019 by Zvonimir Sedlic, Nutris is a Croatia-based foodtech company at the forefront of leveraging fava beans as a sustainable plant protein source. This aligns seamlessly with current trends in food manufacturing towards healthier and more sustainable ingredients.

Nutris operates a cutting-edge 45,000-tonne facility in Eastern Croatia that fractionates fava beans into protein, starch, and fiber. This facility delivers clean-label, functional ingredients tailored for contemporary food applications, making it a key player in the food manufacturing landscape.

AB Mauri boasts a significant manufacturing presence throughout the UK, offering a diverse range of yeast and ingredient solutions that cater to various customer markets within food manufacturing.

Jim Hawkridge, Product Development & Technical Director at AB Mauri, remarked that Nutris has implemented a highly advanced technical process, unveiling substantial opportunities in fava-bean-based protein for the food sector.

Zvonimir Sedlic stated: “At Nutris, we believe fava beans are one of the most underutilised yet powerful crops for sustainable food systems. Partnering with AB Mauri – a true innovation leader in bakery – creates an exciting opportunity to bring the functional and clean-label benefits of fava to mainstream applications. We’re thrilled to collaborate and scale solutions that deliver better performance, nutrition, and sustainability across UK and Irish markets.”

David Cooper, Managing Director at AB Mauri, added: “It is no secret that AB Mauri has a clear development model with a rich heritage centred on strategic collaboration with stakeholders. The partnership we are jointly announcing with Nutris today is a clear indication of this. We are excited to maintain our traction to date and continue unlocking potential in baking and wider food markets.”
