Yeo Valley Expands UK Dairy Portfolio with Acquisition of The Collective Brand Yeo Valley Organic Food and Beverage Business

UK dairy company Yeo Valley Production has officially announced its acquisition of Epicurean Dairy (UK) along with The Collective brand.

While the financial specifics of the acquisition remain undisclosed, Yeo Valley emphasizes that this strategic move aims to merge its extensive manufacturing capabilities with The Collective’s highly regarded, innovative product lines. By doing so, Yeo Valley intends to enhance its position within the competitive food and beverage industry landscape.

Yeo Valley’s CEO, Rob Sexton, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, describing The Collective as a “perfect fit” for the organization. He stated, “We have ambitious plans to drive the growth of delicious British dairy.” Sexton further noted, “This ambitious new partnership will enable more opportunities for The Collective to deliver more great-tasting innovative dairy to British fridges.”

Founded in New Zealand by chefs Angus Allan and Ofer Shenhav in 2009, The Collective made its entry into the UK market in 2011, under the leadership of Amelia Harvey and the late Mike Hodgson. The brand has gained recognition for its live yoghurts, the kids’ range Suckies, and its dairy-free yoghurts.

In 2018, The Collective sold a 39% stake to the Auckland-based private equity firm Pencarrow, marking a significant milestone in its growth trajectory in the food and drink business.

Sarah Smart, CEO of The Collective UK, highlighted the long-standing partnership with Yeo Valley Production, stating, “Yeo Valley Production is a long-time partner of The Collective and has been an integral part of the brand’s growth journey and success over the years.” She further added, “The close alignment of the businesses’ values and visions to deliver natural, healthy, great tasting and sustainable food that is better for people and planet, makes Yeo Valley the perfect home for the next stage of The Collective’s growth.”

Yeo Valley, which remains independently owned by the Mead family and its employees, operates five sites in Somerset and Devon, employing over 1,700 people. The company produces a range of products, including yogurt, cream, ice cream, and soup under the Yeo Valley Organic brand, alongside other brands like Tideford and Ubley.

It’s noteworthy that in 2018, Arla Foods acquired Yeo Valley’s liquid milk, butter, and cheese business, which reflects the evolving dynamics in the food and drink consumer trends.

With this acquisition, Yeo Valley aims to capitalize on emerging trends within the food and beverage industry, reinforcing its commitment to delivering high-quality products that resonate with modern consumers.
