The latest funding round was spearheaded by Maven Capital Partners, utilizing resources from its Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II, with additional backing from the British Business Bank.
Additionally, Perfect Redd, the venture capital division of Samworth Brothers, participated in this round, committing further investment aimed at enhancing Tiba Tempeh’s marketing, sales, and product development initiatives. This funding will facilitate the brand’s growth both in the UK and internationally.
Established in 2019 by Ross and Alexandra Longton, Tiba Tempeh is a certified B-Corp offering a diverse selection of tempeh products, including an original block, plant-based mince, and an array of marinated pieces.
Tiba Tempeh products are crafted from 100% natural and organic ingredients, boasting over 22g of protein per 100g. They are notably high in fiber, vegan-friendly, and gluten-free, appealing to a health-conscious consumer base.
According to Nielsen data, Tiba Tempeh’s retail sales value surged by an impressive 736% last year, establishing it as the fastest-growing brand in the UK chilled meat-free sector. In 2024 alone, the brand generated £1.2 million in retail sales value and secured placements in major retailers such as Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, and Ocado, as well as prominent outlets in Spain and France.
“We’re incredibly proud to be the fastest-growing brand in the UK’s chilled meat-free category, fulfilling consumer demand for more natural and nutritious products,” stated Ross Longton.
“The investment will help us accelerate our growth and support our mission to create a healthier world by inspiring people to enjoy more delicious, naturally healthy, and sustainable plant-based food,” he added.
Rebecca MacDermid, an investment manager at Maven Capital Partners, referred to Tiba Tempeh as an exciting brand thriving in a market characterized by a rising demand for “more natural and healthier meat-free alternatives.”
“[There is] a focus on higher nutritional and protein content, which Tiba Tempeh products provide,” MacDermid noted.
“Alex and Ross are a fantastic team with a wealth of experience in the food industry, positioning the business for continued success. We are pleased to support the next stage of their growth as they expand their market presence across the UK and Europe,” she concluded.
