Ruiz Foods to shut down California location

Ruiz Foods to shut down California location Ruiz Foods Food and Beverage Business
In a strategic move, US-based frozen food and snack maker Ruiz Foods has announced the closure of its California facility later this year, affecting 215 employees at the plant.
The Tulare facility, which has been operational for 20 years, will cease operations by the end of the fiscal year, between 30 August and 13 September. This decision comes as Ruiz Foods identifies the site as too small and in need of significant capital investment to align with its manufacturing requirements and sustainably contribute to the company’s network.
A spokesperson from Ruiz Foods explained, “The Tulare manufacturing facility faces challenges due to its limited footprint, parking, and layout, leading to manufacturing inefficiencies and increased transportation costs to serve customers beyond the West Coast. As a business necessity, we will close the facility but are committed to supporting our Tulare team members through this transition period, offering potential transfers to our Dinuba plant as an alternative.”

Initially established in 2004 as a temporary extension of the Dinuba facility, the Tulare plant’s production will be consolidated into other Ruiz Foods plants, including those in Denison, Texas, and Florence, South Carolina. Over the years, the Tulare plant has contributed to the production of various Ruiz Foods products.

Headquartered in Frisco, Texas, Ruiz Foods, founded in 1964, boasts popular brands like Tornados and El Monterey, sold across the US and Canada through diverse distribution channels. With more than 4,000 employees across five manufacturing facilities, Ruiz Foods remains a key player in the food and drink business.

In January, COO Kimberli Carroll was promoted to president and CEO, succeeding Dan Antonelli who assumed the role of executive board chair. Carroll, with almost 23 years of experience at Ruiz Foods, brings a wealth of industry knowledge to her new leadership role.
