Espersen, a Denmark-based seafood company, has named Tino Bendix, a former executive at Orkla, as its new CEO. He takes over from Klaus Nielsen, who led the company for 25 years. Espersen started with production only in Denmark when Nielsen joined as CFO 37 years ago. Today, the company has expanded with production facilities and sales offices in multiple countries across Europe and Asia.
Bendix, who also assumes the role of CEO of Espersen’s holding company Insepa, brings 14 years of CEO experience in various companies and a strong background in the food industry and FMCG market. He was previously the CEO of Orkla’s Danish operations. His key competencies include developing core strategies, enhancing profitability, and building brand value.
Upon Nielsen’s retirement, the board chair, Flemming Enevoldsen, expressed appreciation for their collaboration during challenging times. Bendix was chosen as the new CEO after a rigorous selection process. Nielsen will transition to a senior advisor role after stepping down, while Bendix takes the helm.
Bendix emphasized Espersen’s commitment to transparency and integrity. He looks forward to driving growth for the company while maintaining its core values. Espersen’s recent acquisition of Iceland Seafood International’s UK operations, including a facility in Grimsby, is expected to boost its turnover significantly in 2024.
The turnover of Espersen amounted to around €350m ($375m) last year, but with the recent acquisition, it is projected to reach €600m in 2024. The company has had only four CEOs since its inception in 1937, reflecting stability and long-term leadership.
As Espersen continues to expand its presence in the food and beverage industry, the appointment of Bendix signals a new chapter of growth and innovation for the company.
