The US-based pork producer Clemens Food Group has acquired local peer Kunzler & Company. This strategic acquisition will add three more processing facilities to Clemens’ portfolio, with plants located in Lancaster and Tyrone township in Pennsylvania. Clemens has confirmed that they will continue to offer products under the Kunzler brand. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed, and the company declined to answer further questions.
Clemens emphasized that this purchase reinforces their commitment to delivering exceptional products and aligning with another Pennsylvania-based pork provider with similar core values. Brad Clemens, the president of Clemens, stated, “The decision to acquire Kunzler stems from both organisations’ earned industry reputations, as both are viewed as trusted providers of high-quality products to the marketplace.”
Chris Kunzler, the deceased chairman of Kunzler’s board, sought a successor to carry forward the family legacy of over 123 years. Clemens Food Group emerged as the ideal steward, reflecting the shared cultures and commitment to excellence. Both parties look forward to joining forces and are excited about the future ahead.
Founded in 1895, Clemens is a sixth-generation, family-owned company, based in Hatfield, Pennsylvania. Employing over 5,000 people, Clemens is the fifth-largest pork processor in the US, owning brands like Hatfield, Farm Promise, Premium Reserve, and Prima Porta. Last year, Clemens sold a factory to the US-based turkey bacon producer, Godshall’s Quality Meats, expanding the latter’s operations in Pennsylvania.
The 53,000-square-foot processing plant previously operated by Clemens in Emmaus, Pennsylvania, is now under the ownership of Godshall’s Quality Meats. This adds to Godshall’s three existing sites in Telford, Souderton, and Lebanon, marking a significant expansion for the company.
