Grupo Bimbo, a Mexico-based company, will close its San Antonio, Texas bakery facility on 5 October. This move will affect 138 employees, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) posted with the Texas Workforce Commission. This closure follows the shutdown of two other bakery plants in Auburn and Olean, New York, resulting in the loss of 131 jobs.
In May, Bimbo Bakeries USA announced the closure of its Bellevue, Nebraska bread and buns facility, laying off 172 employees. This continuous stream of closures is part of the company’s effort to optimize operations in the US.
Daniel Servitje, the former CEO, hinted at more closures in 2024 as part of the company’s strategy to restructure investments and enhance productivity. The focus is on identifying opportunities that align with the company’s philosophy and sustainability goals.
With the recent appointment of Rafael Pamias as CEO, Grupo Bimbo continues to evaluate its operations in the US market. The company aims to optimize its footprint by implementing best-in-world practices and strategic acquisitions.
