In a move designed to meet evolving consumer demands and trends, the food and beverage giant Grupo Bimbo has announced the acquisition of Spain-based gluten-free bakery company, Amaritta. This strategic purchase will afford Grupo Bimbo a more comprehensive portfolio by adding gluten-free products. The company stated, “With the acquisition of Amaritta, we incorporate a very relevant company in the gluten-free bread segment, which allows us to add this product into our portfolio and continue investing in this category.”
Amaritta, which Grupo Bimbo described as being in a “leadership” position in the gluten-free bakery category in Spain, declined to comment on the deal. Based in Córdoba, Amaritta boasts manufacturing space of 2,000 square meters with the “capacity to manufacture 10m units of gluten-free product”. This acquisition is aligned with Grupo Bimbo’s commitment to catering to the specific needs of all consumers and adapting to market demands.
Grupo Bimbo has a strong presence in Spain with brands such as Ortiz, Takis, and Silueta. The Mexican group has made notable moves in recent months, having snapped up smaller US peer Mile Hi Bakery and invested $100m in a new production line for bread at its facility in Pilar, Argentina. This acquisition has come shortly after Grupo Bimbo’s third-quarter results showed a decline in net sales to 99.18bn Mexican pesos and a drop in net majority income. With fourth-quarter numbers set to release on 19 February, the company is making strategic investments and acquisitions that reflect its commitment to growth.
Furthermore, this acquisition aligns with Grupo Bimbo’s concerted efforts to adapt to market demands and cater to the rapidly changing food and beverage industry trends. As it continues to invest in the gluten-free category, this strategic acquisition is indicative of Grupo Bimbo’s proactive approach to staying ahead of the dynamic food and drink consumer trends.
