The Greenery has appointed David Markowski as its new CEO. Before assuming this role, Markowski served as the company’s strategy director for nearly four years. He takes over from Steven Martina, who left in August to join Zespri International.
Markowski brings an extensive professional background to the position. Prior to joining The Greenery, he held the role of COO at media agency 90/24 Media, co-founded the investment platform Young United Invest, and worked at communications group Liberty Global and at the bank ABN Amro.
The Greenery, which operates internationally, is owned by members of the Coforta cooperative and employs approximately 1,100 staff. Markowski steps into his new role aiming to execute the corporate strategy known as Focus 2025, intending to enhance competitiveness and returns for growers.
“As a representative of the source, The Greenery plays a very important role, not only for growers but also for the end consumer, as product availability with the right price-quality ratio will only become more challenging in the future,” Markowski said in a statement. “I am convinced that with the further rollout of the Focus 2025 strategy, we will create a future-proof organization that adds great value within the chain.”
Furthermore, Markowski and his team aspire to transform The Greenery into a more agile organization suited to the demanding landscape of the fruit and vegetable chain.
