Skittles is pleased to announce the launch of its Desserts range, featuring nostalgic flavors that have been selected based on insightful research. According to data, there has been a notable 42.5% increase in under 35-year-olds consuming Fruity Confectionery as a dessert since 2020. Additionally, 37% of the nation are revisiting childhood dishes, with online searches for knickerbocker glory up by 17%. These trends were instrumental in shaping Skittles’ latest flavor offerings.

Ryan Pardo Roques, Skittles senior brand manager, notes that an impressive 90% of category growth in Fruity Confections is driven by NPD. As the leading brand in the chewy partition, Skittles is poised to deliver on the growing demand for flavor innovation. The brand has been consistently driving NPD category blockbusters for four years running, and its iconic status puts it in the best position to tap into new markets.

The newly launched Desserts range takes inspiration from the success of Skittles Squishy Cloudz in Fruits and Crazy Sours flavors, which hit stores in April 2022. Squishy Cloudz offers a soft, sweet experience with intense flavors, making it highly appealing to younger audiences who prioritize health and wellness and are in search of more permissible options. With 19% fewer calories per pack compared to core Skittles and 40% less sugar per pack, it is the perfect choice for shoppers looking for a milder candy experience.

The nostalgic fruit snacks that make up the Desserts range are expected to hit retailers nationwide from early summer. Each pack, weighing 152g, will retail for £1. Skittles is confident that the launch of the Desserts range will drive further growth, attract new shoppers, and establish relevance with the Gen Z market.

In conclusion, with the Desserts range, Skittles has leveraged the power of nostalgia to launch a set of new flavors that are sure to resonate with a broad spectrum of consumers. Skittles’ continuous commitment to NPD category growth assures us that the brand will continue to be a leading innovator in the chewy confectionery space.
