Fresh Express has successfully acquired McEntire Produce, a reputable supplier of fruits and vegetables to the foodservice channel.

Fresh Express, headquartered in Salinas, California, primarily serves the retail sector with a diverse range of products including branded bagged salads, fresh produce meal kits, and fruits. Recently, the company has expanded its reach into the out-of-home channel, marking a significant strategic direction.

The acquisition aims to provide a “national foodservice solution” leveraging Fresh Express’s extensive capabilities in growing, harvesting, and distribution. This aligns with the company’s vision to enhance its offerings across the foodservice sector.

Following the acquisition, McEntire Produce will continue to operate under its established name, providing delivery services throughout the United States.

John Olivo, President of Fresh Express, stated, “We are pleased to announce the acquisition of McEntire Produce by Fresh Express. This will significantly enhance our offerings and services to foodservice customers and consumers through increased investments in innovation, efficiencies, and food safety. We aim for a seamless integration of the business strengths and employees.”

While the financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed, McEntire Produce, led by President and CEO Carter McEntire, has been supplying out-of-home customers with fruits and vegetables since 1938. The merger with Fresh Express aims to unlock new growth opportunities and drive expansion.

McEntire Produce will gain valuable support from Fresh Express’s national platform, which includes six facilities across various regions, extensive grower networks, and advanced supply chain capabilities. Together, they share the goal of enhancing long-standing customer relationships while lowering total food miles and carbon emissions.

Furthermore, the partnership will decrease route-to-market costs for McEntire Produce products, benefiting all parties involved.

McEntire Produce utilizes its proprietary Simply Cleanwash system, which complements Fresh Express’s radio frequency identification-based food traceability technology. This collaboration promises to elevate food safety standards significantly.

Mr. McEntire expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition, noting, “I am excited to continue growing the business in my new capacity. We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to our dedicated employees for their invaluable contributions, forming the foundation of this highly respected business.”
