Nisa Local Bury Road store manager Paula Lafferty expresses her satisfaction with the recent refit, commenting, “Originally, we were a Co-op and we had a refit and brought in new things. We brought in zero waste, and it has been popular so far with our shoppers.” Lafferty highlights the positive response from customers, emphasizing their appreciation for the unique offerings the store now provides. She explains, “They absolutely love it, it is different. We sell a lot of different things now and that means customers no longer need to run into town because of the range we sell.” Moving forward, Lafferty believes that zero-waste options will continue to be crucial for the store’s success.
The zero-waste service is gaining popularity, particularly among budget-conscious shoppers. Lafferty acknowledges the financial challenges many individuals face, noting, “We know times are tough financially for a lot of people now and purse strings are getting tighter and tighter with prices going up.” As a result, customers have started questioning their purchases, considering whether they truly require a large quantity of a particular item. Lafferty illustrates this point, saying, “How many times have your kids gone to school and needed two ounces of something and you’ve needed to buy a bag and then bin it. And then the next year you need it again.” With this in mind, the store aims to provide maximum value for money to residents in the local area.
The refill station at Nisa Local Bury Road currently offers a variety of items, including nuts, grains, seeds, cereal, and pasta. Additionally, the store has invested in energy-efficient chiller doors and lighting as part of the refit. Lafferty expresses her enthusiasm for the changes, exclaiming, “All the fridges are new and came in through the refit. I absolutely love the refit. We are now able to cater for breakfast, dinner, and tea for our customers – both on the go and through fresh and chilled.”
The revamped store has contributed to an increase in footfall, as Lafferty mentions, “There is something here for everybody. The milkshakes, slush machines, and fresh orange juice – we offer all sorts.” The diverse product range has proven to be a hit with customers seeking valuable bargains. Victoria Lockie, the head of retail at Nisa, commends the store’s progressive mindset, stating, “Nisa Local Bury Road is a fantastic site which has a real ambition to be progressive and look to the future through zero waste.”
