Several stores in the Corby and Northampton areas have announced the addition of critical bleed control kits to their shops, thanks to the support of various organizations. Greenhill Stores and One Stop in Corby expressed their gratitude to Meditech Global for purchasing the kit for the community. Meanwhile, Todays Local Store in Northampton thanked Northampton Town Council for their assistance in securing the kit for the region. Additionally, Trudy Davies, who runs Woosnam & Davies News in Llanidloes, was thankful for Independent Retail News / Talking Retail for providing her with the necessary information to acquire a kit for her store at the beginning of the year. This initiative was started by The Daniel Baird Foundation, a foundation established in 2017 after Daniel Baird was fatally stabbed outside a nightclub in Birmingham and died from catastrophic bleeding.

The bleed control kits can be installed in a cabinet alongside a defibrillator or held by store owners or venue operators. While training for the use of these kits is recommended, it is not crucial, as they are designed to be user-friendly. Safeguard Medical has developed the kits, with standalone versions starting at just £96 plus VAT, while cabinets start at £310 plus VAT. The Daniel Baird Foundation provides information on how to purchase these kits, as well as training videos, slideshows, and printable leaflets on their website, controlthebleed.org.uk.

To recap, adding critical bleed control kits can be a quick, affordable, and practical way to prepare for potential emergencies in stores. These kits can be purchased either as a standalone version or a cabinet for safe storage. The Daniel Baird Foundation is an excellent resource that offers information about purchasing the kits and additional training materials. Stores in the Corby and Northampton areas have already taken this step, with more outlets expected to follow in the foreseeable future. Stay safe, and always be prepared for the unexpected.
