With food and beverage manufacturers confronting unprecedented operational pressures, Anuga FoodTec 2027 will provide a practical roadmap for technological progress. The leading international trade fair will take place in Cologne, Germany, from 23 to 26 February 2027.

The event will be organised around the central theme: “Navigate Complexity. Smart. Safe. Sustainable.”

Developed in partnership with the German Agricultural Society (DLG), the comprehensive programme is designed to help trade visitors interpret emerging food manufacturing trends, assess relevant technologies, and make well-informed decisions about future investments.

Understanding the central theme

Food production companies operate in an increasingly complex environment influenced by volatile international markets, changing food and drink consumer trends, demanding food and drink regulations, and ambitious sustainability objectives.

Anuga FoodTec 2027 addresses these pressures through three connected priorities:

Smart – digitalisation and automation: This pillar explores data-led production control, secure connectivity, artificial intelligence, digital twins, robotics, and edge-to-cloud systems. Together, these capabilities can improve decision-making, efficiency, and performance across the factory floor.

Safe – process reliability and traceability: Reliable production depends on strong cybersecurity, robust hygiene procedures, real-time monitoring, and complete supply chain traceability. These measures support consistent quality while reducing operational and compliance risks.

Sustainable – resource efficiency and the circular economy: The programme examines practical ways to reduce resource consumption through energy-efficient processes, heat recovery, water reuse, circular production models, and the integration of alternative proteins into modern value chains. These priorities reflect the growing importance of food and drink sustainability.

An interactive platform for industry professionals

Anuga FoodTec 2027 will offer more than a conventional exhibition environment. Engineers, technical specialists, business leaders, and other decision-makers can access an interactive platform built around applied knowledge, direct discussion, and live demonstrations. The programme will help visitors connect the latest food processing technology with real-world production requirements, while also highlighting food and drink industry innovation, food distribution trends, packaging developments, and food and drink marketing considerations.

1. Innovation Stage: sector-focused programme days

The fair’s largest stage will host a different processing focus each day, bringing technology developers together with professionals who use these solutions in daily operations:

23 February: Dairy products and milk alternatives.

24 February: Meat products and substitutes.

25 February: Liquid foods and specialist water products.

26 February: Plant-based foods and food and drink packaging.

Visitors can choose from several discussion formats. Deep Dives provide detailed technical analysis, Science Slams present research in an accessible format, and Open Expert Stages create opportunities for peer-to-peer exchange.

2. SMART and SUSTAINABLE Community Hubs

Two new community areas will bring scientific expertise closer to practical manufacturing challenges, replacing one-way lecture formats with more participatory sessions.

SMART Community Hub: Nineteen sessions will examine artificial intelligence, digital twins, robotics, automation, and cybersecurity.

SUSTAINABLE Community Hub: Sponsored by Ecolab, this hub will present 16 sessions covering resource efficiency, circular economy strategies, and alternative proteins.

Tech-Talks, BarCamps, and Fishbowl discussions will allow attendees to raise their own operational issues and engage directly with specialists. This format supports an open exchange of ideas around current food and beverage industry trends and emerging solutions.

3. Applied knowledge through presentations and tours

Speakers Corner: International exhibitors will deliver concise presentations highlighting new products, technologies, and business solutions.

Guided Tours: Nine organised tours will take visitors to selected large-scale production systems and live demonstrations across the exhibition halls. By seeing equipment and processes in operation, attendees can more easily assess how new solutions may fit their own facilities.

4. Opportunities for young professionals and innovators

Careers Day – 26 February: Students, graduates, and early-career professionals will meet leading companies through dedicated DLG BarCamps, guided tours, and hackathons.

International FoodTec Award: Taking place on 23 February at Theater am Tanzbrunnen, the ceremony will recognise pioneering international developments that combine advanced innovation with improved sustainability and operational efficiency.

A practical guide to the future of food production

Anuga FoodTec 2027 will give the food and beverage sector a structured way to navigate rapid technological and market change. By turning complex developments into practical demonstrations, expert conversations, and hands-on learning under the Smart, Safe, and Sustainable framework, the event will equip visitors with the knowledge, connections, and tools required to strengthen operations and prepare for the future.
