The team at Colpac has innovated its traditional platters to prioritize speed of construction and visibility in food and drink packaging. Recognizing the importance of providing value to customers, Colpac is excited to introduce its lightweight platters, designed to support cost reduction. Each new range features four base sizes, accompanied by interchangeable sleeves and lids. Additionally, the smaller light platter bases serve as cost-effective ¼ and ½ inserts for the larger bases across both collections.
The platter trays are specifically designed to fit standard catering sandwich configurations. The large platter accommodates 12 sandwich rounds (48 quarters), while the small holds 6 sandwich rounds (24 quarters), and the extra small fits 3 sandwich rounds (12 quarters). A medium size is also available, making it an ideal choice for customers packaging artisan bread sandwiches or other items such as pastries and samosas for workplace lunches.
Moreover, these platters offer a versatile packaging solution for businesses catering to various occasions like birthday celebrations, baby showers, or home events featuring foods such as cupcakes, pastries, sweet treats, or fruit displays.
Enhanced Operational Efficiency
Catering businesses often face constraints on time and space when assembling platters for daily deliveries. Colpac’s new platter designs facilitate quicker assembly, thereby streamlining back-of-house operations. The updated sleeve design now boasts a smooth, self-erecting crash-lock at one end, complemented by a simple tuck closure at the other.
The traditional range maintains pop-out handles that ensure hygienic insertion and removal of platter bases from their sleeves. In contrast, the new light range introduces a lift-off lid, easily removable from the top of the base to showcase the food contents. Furthermore, these platters can be conveniently labeled to provide tamper evidence, allergen and ingredient information, or marketing messaging, thereby fulfilling both hygiene requirements and enhancing brand recognition.
Sustainable Material Sourcing
In line with Colpac’s commitment to sustainability and compliance with the newly released packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (pEPR) regulations, the new platter combinations utilize less material, with the lightweight options further minimizing paperboard usage. To reduce the environmental impact, the window weight has been decreased across all product lines.
These new platter offerings are recyclable and classified as ‘green’ in the Recycling Assessment Methodology. As part of the ‘paper and board’ material category for pEPR, including sleeves and lids (once the window is removed), they are also subject to lower pEPR fees.
