Fareshare Welcomes New CEO and Chairperson

Fareshare Welcomes New CEO and Chairperson "leadership, appointment, CEO, Chair, FareShare Food and Beverage Business

Kris Gibbon-Walsh has officially assumed the role of CEO at FareShare, having previously served in an interim capacity since October 2024. He took over from George Wright, who stepped down from the position.

Before stepping into the CEO position, Gibbon-Walsh served as the chief operating officer for FareShare for 18 months, where he contributed significantly to the organization’s operations.

In addition to this leadership change, FareShare has appointed Dominic Blakemore as the new chair of trustees. Blakemore takes on this role following John Bason’s 13-year tenure, during which Bason led the charity through a period of remarkable growth.

Under Bason’s leadership, FareShare expanded its reach, now providing food support to over a million individuals across the UK annually.

Blakemore, who also serves as the CEO of the global food service giant Compass Group, has been a trustee on FareShare’s board and has played a crucial role in forging important partnerships, notably the Coronation Food Project.

“I would like to thank George Wright for his support and advice. It is an honour to take on the role of CEO at FareShare,” stated Gibbon-Walsh.

“My journey began as a volunteer over a decade ago at one of our warehouses. I understand how much impact our redistributed surplus food has on lives. The food and logistics sectors have been exceptional partners over the last 30 years. Our mission centers on the 8,000 charities we serve, harnessing surplus food to unite people and strengthen communities. I am both excited and optimistic about the future.”

Blakemore also expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Gibbon-Walsh to advance FareShare’s mission further.

“On behalf of all the trustees, I wish to thank John for his incredible service over the last 13 years,” he added.

“He has chaired us with passion, commitment, and integrity throughout this time and has been instrumental in our achievements. I look forward to working with Kris, whose extensive understanding of FareShare and its partnerships—and deep personal commitment to our mission—will guide our future endeavors.”

This announcement coincides with the conclusion of FareShare’s 30th anniversary, marking a record-breaking year where the charity has distributed more surplus food than ever to its network of 8,000 local charities and community groups across the UK.

Currently, FareShare operates a nationwide network comprising 18 partners and 35 regional warehouses, emphasizing its dedication to community support and food redistribution.
