Workers at the facility owned by global refrigerated warehousing leader Lineage have recently voted to recognize Unite as their official union. This decision follows ongoing discussions between the union and Lineage that began last September.

Union recognition offers Unite a legal framework to engage in collective bargaining for workers. This allows for negotiations aimed at improving key areas such as pay, job security, work hours, equal opportunities, and holiday entitlements. Consequently, this development marks a significant advancement for staff rights and representation at Lineage.

The recognition agreement will impact approximately 30 drivers and shunters, and as a result, three Unite workplace representatives have been elected.

Lineage stands as one of the world’s leading warehousing and logistics companies, operating over 450 facilities across 18 countries in North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region.

The firm collaborates with food and beverage companies globally, offering essential services such as cold storage, automated warehousing, freight forwarding, and food manufacturing.

Commenting on this news, Unite general secretary Sharon Graham stated: “This excellent news marks a significant milestone for our members at Lineage, which will help improve jobs, pay, and conditions for workers.”

In addition, Unite regional officer Rosie Newbigging hailed the ballot result as a remarkable victory for the workplace.

“A lot of work has gone into this and as a result our members at Lineage have been rewarded with this fantastic workplace win,” Newbigging said.

“We look forward to Unite members at Lineage receiving the full benefits of union recognition and working with the company to achieve the best possible outcome for staff.”
