Ferrero North America, part of the Italian-founded Ferrero Group behind beloved brands like Ferrero Rocher, Nutella, Kinder, and TicTac, has recently established its first chocolate processing factory in the Bloomington, Illinois region.

This 70,000ft² expansion to Fererro’s manufacturing campus in Bloomington signifies a significant development in the company’s growth not only in North America but also in Illinois. Currently, the company manufactures its products such as Butterfinger and Baby Ruth in Franklin Park, and Keebler products on 110th Street in Chicago.

Alanna Cotton, president and CBO of Ferrero North America, expressed his excitement by stating: “Bringing Ferrero’s extensive experience in producing high-quality chocolate to Illinois, the heart of America’s food and confections industry, will support our goal of becoming a leader in the sweets and treats market.” He added, “Ferrero and Bloomington will continue to thrive together for years to come.”

Ferrero has announced that in addition to the current production of CRUNCH, 100 Grand, and Raisinets products, the Bloomington site will soon be home to a new US$214 million Kinder Bueno production facility. This new facility is expected to create 200 additional local jobs upon its opening later this year.

JB Pritzker, governor of Illinois, praised the talent and infrastructure in Central Illinois for contributing to the growth of Ferrero’s iconic brands. He stated, “Ferrero’s Bloomington facility, now housing the company’s first chocolate factory outside of Europe, is a testament to the manufacturing capabilities we have here in Illinois.”

Bloomington mayor Mboka Mwilambwe emphasized Ferrero’s investment in the city as a cornerstone of the community’s remarkable growth, saying, “I anticipate continued prosperity as we work together in the years to come.”

Moreover, Ferrero’s expansion in North America extends beyond Illinois, as the company has made recent investments in its Ontario plant, and added distribution centers in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Arizona. Additionally, Ferrero has supported Oregon’s hazelnut growers. The company currently has over 5,100 employees across eight offices and 12 plants and warehouses in the US, Canada, and the Caribbean.
