The meat export business will be joining the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) at the Restaurants Canada (RC) show in Toronto from 8-10 April to capitalize on a growing appetite for international produce.

In 2023, the UK exported 2,097 tonnes of beef to Canada worth £10m, 812 tonnes of pork worth £2.5m, and 619 tonnes of sheep meat worth £2.6m.

Susana Morris, AHDB senior trade development manager, said, “We are delighted to be taking part in the RC Show again to shine a spotlight on quality beef, lamb, and pork from Britain. Canada presents opportunities for premium red meat products from Britain and the show is the perfect stage for us to showcase this to the foodservice sector.”

At AHDB’s visit to RC Toronto, they will follow a busy period showcasing British products in the Americas. This included taking part in Expo ANTAD in Guadalajara, Mexico, to promote British pork offal and the Annual Meat Conference in Nashville US to promote beef, lamb, and pork.

“Four exporters joined us in Mexico for Expo ANTAD, which attracted a record 40,000 visitors and led to positive meetings during the show and off stand,” Morris added. “With increasing pig meat consumption in Mexico, the long-term prospects for British pork in this market are encouraging.”

Similarly, AMC gave AHDB the opportunity to showcase high-quality British beef, lamb, and pork, as well as providing valuable insight into market trends in the US that they can capitalize on.

RC Toronto is expected to attract more than 22,000 visitors from Canada and around the world, providing exhibitors the opportunity to connect with key foodservice buyers, influencers, and operators.

Meanwhile, dairy cooperative Arla Foods has invested more than £179m in its Devonshire creamery as part of its ambition to become a global mozzarella player by 2027.
