The demand for sustainable packaging, particularly in the food and drink packaging sector, continues to surge. These collaborative co-creation projects are paving the way for recyclable, fibre-based innovations that align with packaging sustainability goals and adhere to the forthcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.
Fachpack will feature the results from many of these promising partnerships, including:
- UPM Specialty Papers x Michelman: Three co-created solutions, featuring a high-barrier concept that achieves groundbreaking oxygen and moisture barriers with water-based coatings. This high-barrier solution presents an exceptional option for demanding applications such as coffee or chocolate.
- UPM Specialty Papers x Henkel x Koenig & Bauer: A solution that delivers excellent sealability, along with adequate moisture and grease barriers for various confectionery applications, and is particularly suited for digital printing.
- UPM Specialty Papers x Fazer: A heat-sealable, recyclable packaging solution for Fazer Oat Rice Pies, found in the chilled food aisle of supermarkets. This packaging resists moisture and grease, eliminating the need for an additional plastic layer.
- UPM Specialty Papers x Unipaco: A heat-sealable, moisture-resistant salad pot wrapper that utilizes paper alongside an extremely thin PE layer to replace traditional plastic packaging. This structure is PTS Cat II compatible and complies with strict German 95/5 mono-material requirements, with single-component materials constituting 95% of the packaging mass.
- UPM Specialty Papers x BOBST x Michelman: An innovative high-barrier and recyclable paper-based packaging solution designed for long shelf-life products such as coffee, spices, and other challenging applications in food and drink packaging.
