UPM Adhesive Materials proudly introduces a curated selection of Premium Performance label materials specifically crafted for wine and spirits packaging. Each material has been meticulously chosen for its advanced converting capabilities, outstanding performance in the competitive wine and spirits market, and its potential to enhance both brand image and consumer experience. This exclusive collection is showcased in a new sample folder, now accessible in the European, North American, South American, and Asia-Pacific regions.
With the global premium alcoholic beverages market projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.89%, reaching $1.686 trillion by 2034i, the wine and spirits industry increasingly embraces premiumization strategies. As brands strive to set themselves apart through exceptional food and drink packaging, UPM’s label material sample folder equips printers with premium options to present to their clients.
The folder features five innovative label materials, each accompanied by a printed sample that highlights how UPM’s materials handle intricate designs and elaborate embellishments. Additionally, unprinted sheets with peel-off labels provide technical specifications, allowing printers to assess the adhesive performance and practical on-bottle application of each material.
These label materials are integral to UPM’s Premium Performance portfolio, rigorously tested and trusted by partners throughout the value chain. Designed to excel under demanding conditions, such as submersion in ice buckets, they offer superior wet opacity, robust adhesion, and moisture resistance. Printers can also rely on stable supply chains and exceptional mechanical properties, ensuring compatibility with high-speed converting and print finishing processes.
“Printers working with wine and spirits brands face high expectations for both visual impact and technical reliability. Our premium label materials are designed to meet these demands, ensuring smooth converting and consistent performance throughout the product lifecycle,” emphasizes Lisbeth Saarinen, Senior Manager, Global Marketing at UPM Adhesive Materials.
Value chain collaboration brings premium experience to life
To bring these materials to fruition, UPM collaborated with design agencies across the globe, creating five unique label designs tailored to regionally significant alcoholic beverages. Designers were encouraged to express their cultural narratives and interpretations of premium experiences. The highlighted designs feature:
- Champagne, Italy: Robilant
- Baijiu, China: Excel Design Shenzhen
- White Wine, Australia: Denomination
- Bourbon, USA: Dando Projects
- Tequila, Argentina: Tridimage X Boldrini & Ficcardi X JVD X INFINITO X LIP
“Premium today is about more than aesthetics – it’s about storytelling, cultural richness, and emotional connection. We collaborated with four other Latin American design agencies to create the tequila label DIVERSA: a shared concept that celebrates diversity through design. UPM’s premium label materials allowed us to utilize intricate embellishments and fine details with confidence,” explains Hernán Braberman, Creative Director at Tridimage.
To successfully execute these designs, UPM teamed up with leading surface finish company KURZ and global producers of high-precision stamping tools, H+M, for hot stamping transfer materials and tooling, alongside Grafical for expert printing. Additional collaborations with top producers of glass packaging and closures, including Verallia and Vinolok, reinforce the robust value chain partnerships integral to each label concept.
