Carton packaging is often purchased as a complete system extending from the carton complex to the filling and capping line. This model can lead buyers to believe that selecting a different closure requires a complete packaging changeover. UNITED CAPS provides another approach with carton closures engineered for compatibility with legacy and alternative complexes. The closures are designed to operate on existing tethered and non-tethered lines without changes to equipment, line configuration or machine settings. As a result, buyers can assess the closure independently while continuing to use their current complex and production assets.

Making the closure an independent sourcing choice

Purchasing an entire carton packaging solution from one supplier can streamline procurement and simplify technical management. However, it may also link the complex, machinery and closures to a single commercial relationship. Changes in supply availability, delivery schedules or pricing can then limit a buyer’s flexibility unless the broader system is reconsidered. By sourcing the closure separately, procurement teams can introduce a qualified alternative supplier, strengthen supply resilience and retain the existing complex and equipment.

This approach does not challenge the value of integrated packaging systems. Instead, it gives carton packaging purchasers greater freedom to assess a closure based on its own technical performance, supply position and commercial value, as they would with any other packaging component.

An established closure platform with further development ahead

UNITED CAPS brings almost 20 years of experience in carton packaging closures. Its current portfolio includes the established 23 H-PAK, while 27 H-PAK for Alu and Alu-Free complexes is scheduled to extend the range.

The 23 H-PAK has demonstrated its suitability in commercial applications. In the tethered version, the cap stays secured in the open position and away from the pouring zone, helping deliver a clear and convenient pour.

Validation and testing for 27 H-PAK, designed for Alu and Alu-Free complexes, are complete. The product is scheduled for market introduction at the end of 2027, giving customers another option as they plan upcoming carton packaging specifications and respond to evolving food and beverage industry trends.

Assessing closure supply amid PPWR preparation

As companies prepare for the European Union Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), packaging teams are reassessing material selection, recyclability and supply-chain continuity. The closure can be reviewed within this process without requiring a full redesign of the carton packaging system.

Both closures are available with mass-balanced biobased resin or recycled material, supporting customer strategies related to PPWR compliance, food and drink sustainability and wider food manufacturing trends. These considerations also align with developments in food processing technology, food and drink packaging and the growing focus on responsible material use across the food and beverage industry.

A practical alternative for carton closure procurement

The proposition for carton buyers is clear: replace the cap while keeping the existing complex and filling line. This enables the closure to be specified, assessed and purchased as an individual part of the pack, while the established production system continues to operate. It can also help manufacturers respond more effectively to food and drink regulations, changing food distribution trends and evolving food and drink consumer trends.

“A closure is one component of the carton pack. Buyers should be able to evaluate and source it according to the same technical and commercial criteria as any other component, without changing the rest of the line. We are here to give buyers that choice,” said Alan Quéméneur, Chief Growth Officer at UNITED CAPS.

UNITED CAPS welcomes discussions with carton packaging manufacturers and brand owners seeking independent closure sourcing options. The company can advise on the suitability of 23 H-PAK and 27 H-PAK for dairy products, juices, stocks, soups and selected non-liquid applications, while supporting broader food and drink industry innovation and food and drink marketing objectives.
