The site earned recognition for its innovative approach, harnessing Tetra Pak’s comprehensive solutions alongside a dedicated network of specialists and partners committed to food and drink sustainability.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) commended Mengniu’s execution of over 30 advanced use cases related to the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’ (4IR). This factory was collaboratively designed by Mengniu and Tetra Pak, leveraging Tetra Pak’s digital platform and cutting-edge production equipment.

At the Ningxia facility, sophisticated digital systems oversee the entire processing and packaging workflow. These systems monitor performance in real time and automatically direct operations to the most appropriate equipment, ensuring optimal efficiency.

Mengniu’s plant operates with complete automation, supervised by ‘maintenance and operation engineers’—trained operators who receive real-time directions and alerts whenever an issue arises that requires their attention. This setup not only maximizes productivity but also appeals to a new generation of digitally savvy employees in the food and drink packaging industry.

As one of the most intelligent dairy factories globally, this site has reportedly achieved a remarkable reduction in operational costs by 32%, decreased delivery lead times by 55%, and minimized quality defects by 60%. Such advancements reflect significant progress in sustainable practices within the sector.

Tetra Pak’s customized technology at the site encompasses 24 filling lines, with nine currently operational. Among these is the Tetra Pak E3/Speed Hyper, recognized as the world’s fastest carton packaging machine. Additionally, the digital control room allows Mengniu’s operators to manage and monitor all manufacturing operations in real time, enhancing overall food and drink sustainability.

Li Pengcheng, executive president of Mengniu, stated: “After over 25 years in the dairy business, Mengniu wanted to bring together its accumulated wealth of manufacturing experience to optimize operations — establishing 100% consistent production and management processes with the help of digitalization. Together with Tetra Pak and our other partners, we are setting new standards for the future of dairy production.”

Sean Sims, vice president of automation and solutions at Tetra Pak, remarked: “We are thrilled to congratulate Mengniu on receiving the prestigious ‘lighthouse’ certification from the World Economic Forum. As a long-term partner, we are proud to have supported their journey towards greater innovation and sustainability in dairy production. This recognition underscores their commitment to adopting advanced technologies that are shaping the future of the food and drink marketing industry in China.”
