In 2022, a travel retail start-up known as Sustainaholics identified a gap in the market when it came to showcasing inspirational brands leading the way in sustainable innovations. With sustainability becoming a major concern for all individuals, travellers were not encountering enough of these trailblazing brands. This prompted Sustainaholics to collaborate with prominent independent British spirits brands who were dedicated to creating premium, eco-friendly beverages that minimized their environmental impact.
In June 2023, Sustainaholics introduced the award-winning Alumini®, a compact bottle crafted from 100% recycled European aluminum. This innovative packaging solution is not only circular but also easily recyclable. Unlike Virgin Aluminum bottles that are newly extracted from the planet, the Alumini® is made from post-consumer recycled aluminum at the end of its lifecycle, making it a sustainable and low-carbon choice.
The shatterproof design of the Alumini® is ideal for travel and offers significant operational advantages. Weighing less than glass and with a uniquely compact shape, this bottle is a lightweight alternative to PET plastic. The compact design also allows airlines to maximize efficiency by fitting more bottles into restricted onboard spaces.
This groundbreaking spirits miniatures concept will be launched on March 20th in partnership with easyJet onboard their UK A321 fleet. The participating brands on these select easyJet flights include Two Drifters, Penrhos Spirits, Ellers Farm Distillery Yorkshire B Corp, and Wildjac – all renowned for their commitment to sustainability and quality craftsmanship.
David Mills, the founder of Sustainaholics, expressed his pride in launching the Alumini® in collaboration with easyJet. He emphasized the importance of promoting travel-friendly solutions and showcasing the innovation within the UK spirits industry by independent challenger brands.
Simon Cox, the Director of Inflight Retail at easyJet, highlighted the airline’s dedication to providing customers with an enhanced experience. By offering a diverse selection of UK-based spirits aligned with sustainability values, easyJet aims to give passengers more choice and variety when it comes to onboard beverages.
