Plukon Food Group Expands Its Presence in Spain with New Poultry Acquisition Plukon Food Group Food and Beverage Business

Plukon Food Group has made a significant move in the food and beverage industry by acquiring Avícola Moraleja, also known as Avimosa, a poultry business based in Spain.

This acquisition builds on last year’s successful purchase of Grupo Avícola Hidalgo, a supplier of poultry products to various sectors, including retail, B2B, and foodservice. By expanding its portfolio, Plukon strengthens its position in the competitive food and drink business.

Financial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed. However, Avimosa is a comprehensive player in the poultry supply chain, involving feed production, hatching, farming, and processing. The company supplies both fresh and prepared poultry products, along with eggs, to the retail sector and out-of-home channels.

According to a statement from Plukon on May 27, Avimosa generated revenues of €56 million ($65.1 million) last year. Avimosa operates four facilities located in Madrid and Toledo, employing over 250 individuals. The primary slaughterhouse and processing plant is situated in Moraleja de Enmedio, Madrid, complemented by a poultry farm in Añover de Tajo and an incubator in Villaseca de la Sagra, both in Toledo.

Kees Kraijenoord, CEO of Plukon Food, remarked, “Their strong focus on quality, animal welfare, and regional expertise makes them an excellent fit for our European growth strategy.” He emphasized how this acquisition not only reinforces their foothold in central Spain but also enhances vertical integration, including local feed and poultry production. This strategy accelerates their ability to provide high-quality poultry products to retail and foodservice clients across the Iberian Peninsula.

Plukon Food operates 41 facilities across Europe in seven countries and reported a turnover of €4 billion last year, employing a workforce of 12,000 staff. The company’s diverse portfolio features fresh poultry, meals, and salads. Last year, Plukon also expanded its offerings by acquiring a plant-based protein facility linked to Vega Insiders, which specializes in vegan and vegetarian products, including fresh and frozen options like minced meat, bacon, and cheese bites.

In recent years, Plukon Food has pursued other strategic acquisitions, including Spanish poultry producer Sambau in 2024 and Algas SP in Poland. This consistent growth reflects Plukon’s commitment to adapting to evolving food and drink consumer trends and maintaining a competitive edge in the industry.
