SIG introduces innovative spouted pouch system featuring in-line pouch sterilization

The filling equipment for pre-made spouted pouches now offers in-line pouch sterilization, eliminating the need for third-party pre-sterilization and streamlining the supply chain while reducing costs. This advancement was featured at the 2024 Anuga FoodTec exhibition in Cologne, Germany.

According to Christoph Wegener, Chief Markets Officer at SIG, this groundbreaking technology revolutionizes the sterilization process by ensuring full control and flexibility in production. The new system sterilizes spouted pouches in-line, guaranteeing proper sterilant flow and coverage within the filling tunnel.

Massimo Annaratone, Global Business Line Director of Spouted Pouch at SIG, highlighted the benefits of aseptic packaging, emphasizing the extended shelf life and maintained quality of food and beverages without the need for refrigeration or preservatives. Products such as fruit puree, sauces, and baby food retain their nutritional value and taste fresher for longer periods.

The SIG Prime 55 In-Line Aseptic system combines SIG-produced spouted pouches with advanced in-line sterilization technology, ensuring a >log 5 reduction in production. This technology allows for a seamless transition from traditional packaging methods to convenient aseptic spouted pouches. The appeal of better nutrition and sustainable packaging has never been more compelling.
