Addressing the diverse needs of key sectors in both food and non-food markets, Berry’s showcased circular solutions feature examples crafted from recycled plastic content and renewable materials. These designs are not only lightweight but also enhance recyclability, and provide options for reuse or refilling. Crucially, these advantages do not compromise the pack’s aesthetics or functionality, allowing for continued compliance with specific brand and product requirements in food and drink packaging.

“We remain committed to working with our customers in the drive towards a circular, net zero economy,” said Matthias Hammersen, Vice President Sales, Berry CPI Food Beverage, and Specialties. “Fachpack provides the ideal opportunity to highlight our many initiatives and progress in key areas including reduce, reuse, and recycle.”

Berry demonstrates innovative solutions to enhance recyclability through various examples. For instance, the new Flow Restrictor for sauce caps presents an alternative to traditional dispensing valves. Both the lightweight cap and Flow Restrictor, made from polypropylene (PP), facilitate easier recycling.

Furthermore, Berry will showcase industrial containers now featuring a robust plastic handle instead of metal. This change allows for both the container and handle to be recycled together while maintaining reliable performance comparable to metal handles.

Another highlight includes the Proxima tethered closure, which features a unique tamper-evident band that remains attached to the bottle after being broken. This design significantly reduces littering from discarded closures and supports increased recyclability, aligning with food and drink sustainable packaging initiatives.

Among its lightweight containers and closures in the food sector, Berry will present the Sava Flip Top. The robust yet lightweight design is ideal for sauces and dressings, and it comes in various orifice sizes and styles to accommodate different product characteristics.

Additionally, Berry showcases the Sunny and Pical Pouring Closures, specifically developed for the Edible Oil market. Available in 26/21 and 29/21 neck finishes, these one-piece closures offer significant weight savings alongside exceptional pouring performance.

Berry’s range of reusable cups for both hot and cold beverages in the foodservice sector represents another significant advancement. Designed to be dishwasher safe, these durable cups combine premium quality with impactful branding opportunities. Despite their sturdiness, the cups remain lightweight and recyclable at the end of their lifecycle, as they are constructed from high-quality polypropylene.

Alongside several containers made from post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR), Berry will showcase its proprietary CleanStream® technology—recognized as the UK’s first domestically recovered, mechanically recycled PP suitable for contact-sensitive applications.

In addition, Berry’s flexible films division will spotlight two innovations tailored for the retail sector. The Omni® Xtra+ polyethylene cling film presents a high-performance alternative to conventional hard-to-recycle PVC cling films for fresh food applications. It offers elasticity, uniform stretching characteristics, and high impact resistance, all while adhering to current European recycling guidelines.

Berry’s Entour® mono-material laminated films are ideal for bags, pouches, stand-up pouches, and flow wraps for various markets, including food, wipes, and pet food. These films provide superior product protection, convenience for consumers, and impactful point-of-sale presence. Moreover, their recyclability when used with other PE structures offers an alternative to traditional multi-material PET/PE and OPET/PE laminated films, which are difficult to recycle.

“We are excited to showcase our innovative range of circular flexible packaging solutions at Fachpack 2024,” said Gerry Mcgarry, Vice President Sales and Marketing at Berry’s European Flexibles business. “Fachpack presents a crucial platform to demonstrate how our advanced packaging technologies are helping our customers achieve their sustainability goals.”
