Nomadic, an Ireland-based company, celebrates its 25th anniversary by unveiling a fresh new look and an ambitious growth strategy. Collaborating with Greiner Packaging, based in Dungannon, they have recently introduced an innovative Protein+ Granola range, packaged in an iconic and recognizable format, to the market.
According to Bethan Miles, Nomadic’s Marketing Manager, the development of the Protein+ Granola project started prior to the Covid pandemic when they identified consumers’ preferences within the yogurt category. With increasing awareness about gut health and a growing focus on immunity support due to the pandemic, Nomadic sensed an opportunity.
Miles explains, “We recognized the positive health benefits that yogurt offers, including nutrition and its ability to act as a carrier for added vitamins and gut-friendly cultures. After collaborating with a nutritionist, we discovered a tendency towards vitamin D deficiency in the UK and Ireland.”
Driven by their desire to make a difference, Nomadic set out to develop a unique product. The Protein+ Granola range was designed to support immunity, containing high levels of protein, gut-friendly cultures, and the recommended daily intake of vitamin D in each portion.
Miles adds, “The demand for protein-rich foods has been steadily increasing, and with Protein+ Granola, we have created a convenient and nourishing option that offers not only protein accessibility but also superior taste. This makes it appealing to a wide range of consumers, beyond just fitness enthusiasts.”
Revolutionizing packaging
When it comes to the success of their new product, packaging plays a vital role. Just like their popular Yogurt & Oat Clusters range, the Protein+ Granola range is designed to be consumed on the go with no preparation required. To achieve this, the packaging had to be carefully designed.
Miles says, “Our distinctive top-hat bowl packaging format, accompanied by a spoon, has become an iconic choice among our consumers. It was crucial for us to develop a similar packaging for our new product line.”
The new packaging, an inverted version of the Yogurt & Oat Clusters packaging, was created in collaboration with Greiner Packaging, Nomadic’s existing supplier. The challenge was to develop a packaging that fit seamlessly into their existing capabilities at the factory.
Miles adds, “Working with Greiner Packaging made the packaging development process more straightforward than expected. They already possessed the necessary tooling, making it possible to repurpose it for our needs. Importantly, all our packaging is 100% recyclable and appropriately labeled.”
A sustainable approach
This collaboration with Nomadic served as an opportunity for Greiner Packaging to showcase their extensive range of tooling, which can be easily repurposed to create innovative packaging solutions, highlighting their commitment to sustainability.
Julie Eller, Greiner Packaging UK & Ireland Sales Director, explains, “In today’s budget-conscious climate, repurposing existing tooling allows brands to be agile and introduce new packaging variations without incurring additional costs and delays.”
Turning Nomadic’s signature bowl design on its head required intricate engineering. However, Greiner Packaging’s commitment to sustainability played a crucial role in creating new packaging that requires less energy.
Eller concludes, “For many years, we have prioritized the mantra of ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.’ This project allowed us to add ‘Repurpose’ to this important list, displaying our dedication towards a sustainable future.”
