MetalMatters, the industry-supported campaign promoting recycling of food and drink sustainable packaging, has been launched by West Devon Borough Council. The initiative aims to increase kerbside recycling rates by providing informative leaflets to over 26,000 homes in the region. MetalMatters, which has been implemented by numerous local authorities in the UK since 2012, focuses on educating residents on the best ways to recycle metal packaging.
Lead Member for Environment at West Devon Borough Council, Cllr Lynn Daniel, emphasized the importance of increasing recycling rates and reducing waste through environmentally responsible practices. Encouraging residents to rethink their recycling habits, MetalMatters highlights the sustainability of metal packaging, which is endlessly recyclable.
Leader of West Devon Borough Council, Cllr Mandy Ewings, acknowledged the efforts of residents committed to recycling and waste reduction but emphasized the importance of doing more. Recycling aluminum cans alone can save enough energy to power a TV for three hours, demonstrating the impact of small changes in recycling habits.
Executive Director of Alupro, Tom Giddings, expressed confidence that the MetalMatters campaign will contribute to higher recycling rates and increased household participation in West Devon. Emphasizing the recyclability of metal and its environmental benefits, Giddings highlighted the unchanged quality of recycled metal and the significant difference small actions can make.
Funded by the metal packaging industry, MetalMatters educates households on the benefits of recycling metal packaging and promotes best recycling practices. To learn more about MetalMatters, visit www.metalmatters.org.uk.
