Hesburger, Finland’s leading burger restaurant chain, is embarking on an ambitious initiative to eliminate single-use tableware. To ensure optimal results for the environment, customers, and the business itself, Hesburger has partnered with innovative material solutions provider Hesburger and the pioneering material innovation company Sulapac.

Sulapac’s innovative approach to reusable tableware includes the 100% biobased Sulapac Solid material. This product mimics the performance of traditional plastics without contributing to microplastic pollution. Additionally, it boasts a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to conventional plastic. After up to 300 washes, these cups can be efficiently recycled into new food-grade materials.

“Cups made of Sulapac Solid are already in use at all 69 Hesburger locations in Lithuania. Lithuania was chosen as the starting point due to new national regulation passed in May 2025 requiring restaurants to provide reusable alternatives. We are glad to pilot with Sulapac cups, which give our customers a choice between reusable and paper cups,” states Eeva Mäki, Global Sustainability Manager at Hesburger.

“We are proud to be part of Hesburger’s reuse transformation, enabling the benefits of reuse without increasing the consumption of fossil-based plastic. By choosing Sulapac over conventional plastic, one helps to protect ecosystems – and human health,” adds Miki Lahtinen, Chief Commercial Officer at Sulapac.
