Hartmann Packaging is enhancing the future of food packaging by integrating its FiberWise® MAP trays with cutting-edge processing technologies like the SAIREM Microwave Pasteurisation Solution. This innovative system enables the pasteurisation of ready meals and their components, resulting in safer, healthier products that maintain taste while extending shelf life, all without the need for preservatives or additives.

This partnership exemplifies how fiber-based packaging can facilitate progressive food treatment solutions, improving both product safety and quality, while still aligning with sustainability objectives.

Christina Frohm Kramer, the Business Development Manager for Food at Sairem, stated, “FiberWise® trays by Hartmann Packaging are yet another promising concept to bridge the demand for alternatives to plastic trays and a modern innovative product treatment like the SAIREM Microwave Pasteurisation Solution.”

The design of this solution allows for easy integration into existing high-speed denesting and tray-sealing machinery. FiberWise® trays present a straightforward, plug-and-play option that minimizes the need for operational adjustments or significant capital expenditure, leveraging Hartmann Packaging’s extensive proficiency in moulded fiber technology, developed over more than a century.

FiberWise® trays serve as an effective substitute for conventional rigid PET and PP trays in the market for fresh proteins and convenience foods, slashing plastic usage by as much as 90%. This significant reduction helps manufacturers lessen their environmental impact and promotes circular economy initiatives.

Kati Ørskov from Hartmann Packaging remarked, “As geopolitical uncertainties and supply chain disruptions increasingly affect the packaging industry, many ready meal producers are grappling with challenges associated with fossil-based plastics, including price fluctuations, raw material shortages, and supply limitations.”

For those manufacturers who pasteurise their ready meals, FiberWise® presents a reliable packaging option that merges operational dependability with a consistent supply chain. By utilizing locally sourced fiber materials, FiberWise® reduces reliance on fossil resources, providing producers with a scalable and resilient alternative for sustainable, long-term planning.

FiberWise® trays have received certification as technically recyclable in standard paper mills using the Cepi method. This certification facilitates recycling without the need to separate the barrier layer from the fiber tray, making disposal simpler for consumers and streamlining the process into existing paper recycling systems.

Attendees at Interpack can discover FiberWise® along with Sairem’s microwave pasteurisation technology at Hall 5, Booth E01. The collaborative solution will also be presented with other leading processing experts and partners at locations including Hall 5: Stand F24, D19, A42, and in Hall 10 Stand B68 and Hall 14 Stand A40.
