Graphic Packaging International, a recognized leader in sustainable food and drink packaging, has entered into a partnership with New Jersey-based co-packer JJM Packaging. This agreement will enable the distribution of the award-winning Boardio™ paperboard canister to brands and retailers throughout the U.S. and Canada, catering to an extensive array of food products. Boardio serves as an eco-friendly alternative to rigid plastic containers and flexible pouches, making it ideal for packaging JJM Packaging’s diverse offerings, including nutrition powders, sweeteners, dry beverage mixes, oats, grains, and various cereal products.

Notably recyclable within household waste streams, Boardio significantly reduces plastic usage by up to 90% compared to traditional packaging solutions. It is primarily crafted from renewable materials sourced sustainably from managed forests, presenting an attractive choice for customers seeking to transition to more circular food and drink sustainable packaging options.

Johan Werme, head of sales for paperboard canister solutions at Graphic Packaging, stated, “This is an exciting new opportunity built on close cooperation and a shared passion for innovation. We want to thank our partners at JJM Packaging for their confidence and commitment to this exciting new packaging technology.”

Furthermore, he emphasized, “Graphic Packaging is committed to delivering innovative paperboard packaging solutions that are more circular, more functional, and more convenient than traditional packaging alternatives. Consumers love Boardio when they get their hands on it, and we look forward to working with JJM Packaging to introduce Boardio to millions more consumers across the U.S. and Canada.”

Joe Apuzzo, co-founder and president of JJM Packaging, expressed, “We pride ourselves on our innovation capability and flexibility. It has been an excellent experience working with Graphic Packaging, who align closely with our core values. Our customers want more sustainable and operationally efficient packaging innovations, and we’re delighted to deliver that with Boardio.”

Under this new agreement, Boardio paperboard canisters are scheduled to be accessible to JJM Packaging customers starting Q2 2025.
