The Lismore range of Speyside malts represents one of WM Lundie & Co.’s most treasured products. With recipes handed down through generations of the Lundie family, the craftsmanship and traditions they established continue to thrive today.
In response to the increasing demand for sustainable practices from consumers, WM Lundie & Co. collaborated with Smurfit Westrock to align with these values. This initiative ensures that the Lismore brand not only respects its rich heritage but also embraces a more sustainable future.
Recyclable from top to toe
Previously, WM Lundie & Co. utilized metal-based composite tubes to enhance the premium drinking experience for their customers. However, seeking greater sustainability, they transitioned to paper-based tubes that are 100% recyclable. This change underscores their commitment to sustainability and addresses the rising expectations of eco-conscious consumers.
Sustainable CO2 success
To meet growing demand, WM Lundie & Co. recognized the necessity of adopting recyclable luxury whisky tube packaging for their Lismore brand. Our paper-based tubes now allow for 100% recyclability in kerbside recycling programs, thus simplifying disposal for customers. This transition to paper-based materials has resulted in significant CO2 savings, effectively supporting the brand’s environmental objectives. Furthermore, this move not only furthers the Lismore brand’s sustainability commitment but also empowers customers to make responsible purchasing decisions aligned with their values.
Ensuring minimal disruption to the supply chain during this packaging shift was a priority for us. We understood the importance of maintaining productivity while pursuing sustainability. To achieve this, we carefully adjusted the height of the cylinder tube packaging to ensure compatibility with their existing shipping cases. This strategic choice allows for seamless integration of the new packaging while preserving all other supply chain processes, ultimately saving time, money, and resources.
Better for brands and the planet
As consumers increasingly prefer brands that demonstrate environmental responsibility—with 62% indicating they “always or often” seek sustainable options—WM Lundie & Co.’s transition to paper-based tubes positions them as an immediate choice for discerning shoppers.
Our innovative paper-based tubes allow the Lismore brand to showcase its dedication to reducing environmental impact without sacrificing quality or aesthetic appeal. This not only elevates their brand image but also enhances the consumer experience and secures future business success.
Douglas Belford from WM Lundie & Co. commented: “We are delighted with our new whisky tube packaging, which has found the balance between boosting our sustainability credentials and staying true to the Lismore brand. Smurfit Westrock have helped us to reach our sustainability goals without negatively impacting our customers’ experience. We are now in the process of moving all of our tubes over to paper bases.”
David Humes, General Manager at Smurfit Westrock, reflects: “Sustainability is at the core of what we do at Smurfit Westrock. Our latest investment in paper bases for our gift tubes serves as a prime example of our commitment to better planet packaging. We are thrilled to help our customer enhance the appeal of their whisky packaging for today’s eco-conscious consumers.
