MM Packaging Deeside proudly announces the completion of over 100 million Easter Egg packs of various designs for the UK’s leading brands and brand owners.
This peak production period has propelled the company’s design team to new heights while underscoring key trends that are influencing the food and drink packaging industry. The emphasis on minimizing pack size and material usage aligns seamlessly with improved shelf presence and sustainable practices.
Julian Freeman, Managing Director of MM Packaging Deeside, stated, “Confectionery packaging is where our expertise in manufacturing and pack development really comes to the fore. Brands are pushing us to use less material while maintaining the integrity of the pack, and our design team utilises our technical and production expertise to deliver.”
MM Packaging Deeside’s design department collaborates with clients to create packs that are fit for purpose. Scott Barron, Head of Design, emphasized that his team leverages nearly 20 years of knowledge and experience, drawing from insights developed from previous projects.
Scott elaborated, “There’s a lot of brainstorming and liaising with the production department to ensure that our ideas align with the kind of equipment we have on site. We get the brief and examine the key criteria, for example specific requests from marketers or co-packers.”
Leveraging Impact CAD, the design team efficiently develops prototypes using two cutting tables. Engaging with clients at every stage remains crucial to validate ideas and ensure they meet sustainability criteria.
“Many Easter Egg packs are laser focused on pack reduction right now,” Scott added. “Brands and retailers have transitioned to lighter packaging solutions to enhance their environmental friendliness while controlling costs.”
Furthermore, the division strives to improve efficiency for customers throughout their distribution networks. The smaller packaging dimensions can increase yields in MM Packaging’s own production while minimizing waste. This strategy also optimizes pallet loading for both customers and retailers, contributing to the overarching objective of reducing carbon impact within the supply chain.
MM Packaging Deeside has established a strong track record of delivering creative and innovative solutions in the food and drink packaging market. Notably, its pack design for Toblerone Truffles earned a UK Packaging Award last year, followed by a World Star Award.
The firm’s award-winning capabilities are fueled by a ‘blue-sky’ approach to pack design. Ideas that challenge the limits of innovation and creativity undergo rigorous evaluation. While some projects may never reach the market, this strategy reflects MM Packaging Deeside’s dedication to tackling complex briefs.
Julian Freeman added, “We have a fantastic mix of skills and experience within our design team. Structural and graphical knowhow benefits our customers and gives them a great steer on what is possible, pushing the boundaries in cartonboard development and innovative packaging.”
