Berry Global has recently been awarded the prestigious title of Plastics Recycling Business of the Year by letsrecycle.com at the 2024 Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management. This recognition was given to Berry’s new ‘Berry Circular Polymers’ recycling facility in Leamington Spa, UK for its innovation and dedication to advancing a circular, net-zero economy through its proprietary CleanStream® technology.

As a leader in sustainable packaging, Berry Global is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and increasing the use of recycled content to support a circular economy. Rosie Barber, Commercial Director of Rigid Plastics at Berry Circular Polymers, emphasized the significance of their CleanStream® technology in delivering high-quality recycled plastic to keep used plastics out of the waste stream.

The award-winning CleanStream® technology has the capacity to recycle nearly 40% of all polypropylene waste collected from domestic recycling bins in the UK. This innovative technology offers the UK’s first domestically recovered, mechanically recycled, contact-sensitive, recycled plastic at scale, resulting in up to 35% lower carbon dioxide emissions compared to virgin plastic.

CleanStream® has undergone rigorous testing to meet the standards for contact-sensitive applications, including no odour, taint, and low migration. The facility in Leamington Spa has also received a Letter of No Objection from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, confirming the suitability of CleanStream® recycled plastic for food-grade applications.
