A new luxury artesian mineral water is being packaged in an ergonomic flat bottle using exclusively 100% recycled PET bottles, manufactured by Berry Global. Berry Global is a leading provider of sustainable packaging solutions, committed to reducing plastic waste and promoting a circular economy.

NEUE Water, the brand behind this innovative packaging, designed the flat bottle with the aim of catering to an on-the-go lifestyle. Its slim shape allows users to conveniently place it in pockets, bags, and seatback storage on planes and trains. The bottle’s sturdy construction also makes it suitable for refilling and multiple uses, further promoting sustainability. At the end of its life, the bottle can be recycled, contributing to the reduction of plastic waste in the environment. It’s important to note that while the bottle is made from 100% recycled PET, the cap does not fall under this claim.

Berry Global’s technical expertise and extensive experience in using recycled plastic were crucial in bringing NEUE Water’s founder Michael Lowers’ original design concept to life. The unique flat shape posed a challenge to the traditional injection stretch blow molding (ISBM) process for PET bottle manufacturing. However, Berry Global successfully adapted the technology to accommodate the new design, showcasing their commitment to innovation and sustainability.

In addition to its ergonomic design, the bottle’s aesthetic appeal is enhanced by an uninterrupted convex window on one side. This window magnifies the label area, which features six limited-edition artist labels. The artistic labels, created by Berlin-based artist Studio Raaad, change with the fashion seasons, making NEUE Water a captivating product on shelves.

“In launching NEUE Water, we are improving the carbon impact of mineral water packaging,” said Michael Lowers, the founder of NEUE Water. “Our water enables consumers to hydrate consciously on the go, using a bottle that is made from 100% recycled plastic and is recyclable itself. In this way, we are championing the transition to a more circular economy, reducing waste and promoting sustainability.”

NEUE Water is sourced from one of only two artesian wells in Denmark, known for its soft and rounded flavor. The water is bottled just meters away from the source, ensuring a low-impact production process. Since its launch, NEUE Water has gained significant popularity, selling out within the first week at Harrods and winning prestigious awards, including gold for design at the Fine Water Society’s annual Taste and Design Awards and a Good Brand Award for Advancing Social & Environmental Sustainability from Sublime Magazine.

“The case for using 100% rPET for our bottles is incontrovertible,” emphasized Michael Lowers. “We needed a company like Berry, with their expertise and determination, to make it happen. Together, we were able to create a functional and stylish bottle that perfectly aligns with today’s lifestyle, prioritizing both convenience and sustainability.”

Joe Horton, product line director at Berry Agile Solutions, stated, “At Berry, we are committed to collaborating with our customers to develop solutions that support the move to a more circular economy. Our team is proud to have worked with Michael, sharing his commitment to recycling and supporting his ambitious sustainability goals.”

This successful collaboration exemplifies the importance of working together towards a common goal. The NEUE Water bottle is a prime example of achieving “More Together,” delivering sustainable packaging that embraces the well-established benefits of plastics.
