Ball Corporation (NYSE: BALL), a premier global provider of sustainable aluminum packaging solutions for beverages, personal care, and household products, has recently announced a minority investment in Meadow, a Sweden-based company specializing in packaging technology aimed at developing circular solutions. This strategic partnership will enhance the production of fully recyclable aluminum cans designed as pre-filled cartridges for personal care and household items. Ball Corporation will supply these cans and ends, which will be integrated into reusable dispensers and launched as Meadow scales up its operations.
“Ball is committed to developing low-carbon circular aluminum packaging solutions, and we believe reusable and recyclable packaging plays an important role in the future of personal and home care,” stated Jay Billings, President of Ball Growth Ventures at Ball Corporation. “We’re excited to work with Meadow to deliver our shared vision of bringing sustainable solutions at scale to meet our customers’ sustainability goals.”
Aluminum stands out as a truly circular material, capable of being recycled repeatedly without loss of quality. Meadow’s innovative packaging solutions utilize fully recyclable aluminum cans, previously focused on beverages, for other product categories, thereby promoting circularity. With its extensive global network and multi-market reach, Ball enables Meadow’s solutions to achieve maximum impact, ensuring efficiency, sustainability, and scalability for global consumer goods firms.
“With Ball, we can offer global reach for our circular packaging solution, expanding the availability of a cost-efficient, easy-to-use, and recyclable pre-fill technology. Together, we are accelerating the adoption of circular packaging among global consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands across multiple categories,” remarked Victor Ljungberg, CEO of Meadow.
The MEADOW KAPSUL™ technology is poised for a market launch in 2025. This straightforward solution—a can that functions as a cartridge and comes pre-filled with products like soap or shampoo—fits into a reusable dispenser. By implementing pre-fill solutions, the collaboration aims to minimize material and energy consumption while refining logistics and transportation efficiency.
This groundbreaking packaging technology empowers brands to transition effortlessly to circular packaging without sacrificing quality. It also enhances convenience and intuitiveness for consumers, fostering interest and increasing repurchase intentions. For brand owners, the MEADOW KAPSUL™ presents a cost-effective avenue to achieve sustainability targets, creating distinct opportunities for market differentiation.
Ball and Meadow will showcase their innovations at Paris Packaging Week 2025 during the Global Aerosol & Dispensing Forum (ADF) on January 28th – 29th. The MEADOW KAPSUL™ is also honored as a finalist for the ADF Concept of the Year Award. Furthermore, the companies will co-host a panel titled “Revolutionizing Reuse and Refill: Building a Circular Packaging Ecosystem” on January 29th, where they will share insights into the future of sustainable packaging.
