Avient Corporation, a leading provider of specialized and sustainable materials solutions, has officially launched the ColorMatrix™ Lactra™ LX Light Blocking Additive designed for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) packaging. This innovative technology is specifically tailored for dairy packaging applications, enabling effective light-blocking in single-layer PET bottles.
“Light blocking has been traditionally achieved by using multilayer high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and PET packaging,” said Felipe Reichert, Global Marketing Director for Color, Additives & Inks at Avient Corporation. “Our Lactra LX additive enables blocking of 100% of visible light in monolayer PET containers, protecting and preserving the quality of dairy products and helping to extend shelf life while delivering a bright white color as a solid masterbatch.”
This cutting-edge technology from Avient is ideal for packaging ultra-high temperature (UHT) liquid dairy products, which require extended shelf life and are often stored under ambient conditions. The Lactra LX additive not only ensures product protection but also enhances design versatility, allowing brands to differentiate their products within a crowded market. Furthermore, its lightweighting feature contributes to cost reduction while maintaining high performance, aligning with the growing demand for food and drink sustainable packaging solutions.
Originally introduced in Europe as ColorMatrix™ Lactra™ SX, the bright white Lactra LX technology is now primarily available in North America, catering to the evolving needs of the food and drink packaging sector.
