Aptar – Food Protection, a leader in active material science food safety solutions and part of AptarGroup, Inc., has been granted the North American license to manufacture and distribute the Halopack Tray system. This innovative system, known as Aptar Halopack, is designed to enhance packaging sustainability for various food applications, including fresh, frozen, reheatable, grab-and-go, and oven-able options. The patented solution is made with recycled cardboard and a minimal amount of easily removable film, allowing for recycling in existing cardboard streams once the film is removed. Compared to traditional plastic-based trays, Halopack offers up to a 90% reduction in plastic usage. With over one billion units sold in Europe by the inventors of the product, Halopack, based in the Netherlands.

Aptar Halopack’s sustainability and versatility lie in its simplicity. The paperboard-based tray systems are easy to recycle, fold flat to save recycling space, and allow for custom printing directly on the package to minimize the need for additional labels. These trays are engineered to fit existing top seal and skin pack equipment with minimal tooling conversion required, making them a convenient option for manufacturers.

The Aptar Halopack systems are ideal for a range of food types, including dry and high moisture foods, and are available in various configurations such as skin pack, clamshell, freezable, microwave and oven-able, and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP). This flexibility makes them suitable for ready meals, frozen foods, fresh-cut produce, proteins, and soups. With a duo-tray configuration available, Aptar Halopack is a suitable solution for foods that require separate compartment structures to maintain ingredient integrity.

Manufactured in North America at Aptar – Food Protection’s facility in Atlanta, Aptar Halopack is set to expand production to other North American locations. Neal Watson, VP and General Manager for Aptar – Food Protection, expresses excitement about the sustainability and differentiation benefits Halopack offers. He notes, “We are proud to partner with Halopack to bring this solution to the North American market and look forward to exploring its applications beyond the food market.”

Aptar – Food Protection will showcase the Aptar Halopack Tray system at Seafood Expo North America in Boston, MA on March 10-12. Visit booth #1270 to learn more about this innovative packaging solution.

* APTAR HALOPACK tray systems are constructed with FSC-certified cardboard.
